Phil’s professional career has resulted from a long-held passion for the study of dentistry, especially cosmetic enhancement work. Having graduated from Glasgow University with degrees in anatomy (1998) and dental surgery (2000), he attained membership to the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2004. In 2009 Phil was awarded entry to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow without examination.

Currently working in cosmetic and implant reconstructive dentistry, he is based at Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry a private referral clinic in Glasgow, whilst also carrying out implant work at a clinic in Edinburgh.
Phil has a particular interest in dental implantology including bone grafting, immediate implant placement and loading together with soft tissue surgery. There is no specialism in the field of dental implants – therefore a dentist can’t be called a specialist in dental implants, however his clinic has a particular focus on dental implants and Phil has completed years of focused training and ongoing personal development in the area to ensure he offers the best possible standard of patient treatment and care.

This strong commitment to education means Phil travels extensively to train with and learn from globally recognised pioneers and experts of advanced cosmetic and implant techniques. Throughout the year Phil gets involved in implant mentoring as well as lecturing and co-ordinating courses on the placement and restoration of dental implants, he also undertakes studies into bone regeneration.

Phil has been actively involved with the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) UK since 2005 – at which stage he was elected as the Scottish committee member. Following this, Phil became more involved with the ADI having previously held the post of secretary / treasurer and currently holds the office of president elect. Phil’s term of presidency runs from November 2013, he is also a member of a number of key organisations including the British and American Academies of Cosmetic Dentistry, the ADI, International Team for Implantology (ITI), The PEERS group and the Academy of Osseointegration(USA), as well as being a mentor for the Association of Dental Implantology.
