I have been placing dental implants since 1993 and have placed nearly 4,000 implants. I started off using traditional Branemark implants and have been tempted to use other manufacturer’s implants every few years as technical innovations push one company ahead of the other for a short while. I am fairly conservative, so I have only used four main brand companies in the past – Nobel Biocare, Straumann, 3iBiomet and Astra Tech because I think that having good published data, stock support and reps on the ground is as important as the implant system itself. In 2014 I was attracted to Megagen mainly because of its facility to provide immediate loaded implants, which is a huge benefit to patients and a service I like to offer when I can. Though the other companies are catching up Megagen is clearly ahead of the competition here and the healed mucosal tissue quality is just the best I have seen.
